Standard Poodle Lifespan
A Standard Poodle has an average lifespan of 12-15 years.
Ways to Extend Your Standard Poodles Lifespan
There are many ways you can help your poodle live a long and
healthy life.
- Feed your Standard Poodle a high quality food. Cheap, manufactured dog food can be unhealthy for your pup. Try to avoid food with fillers, artificial coloring, artificial flavorings, and preservatives.
- Exercise your Standard Poodle. A well exercised poodle is a healthy poodle. Data suggests that regular exercise, helps prevent:
*stroke
*heart disease
*some types of cancer
*arthritis
*canine diabetes
Exercise also helps poodles release pent up energy. As a result your poodle will be happy and relaxed while in your home. - Visit your veterinarian regularly. Yearly veterinarian visits are recommended.
- Take steps to avoid bloat. Bloat occurs when a poodle’s stomach fills with gas, food or fluid and twists. Bloat can happen quickly and is an emergency. Limiting exercise and water before and after eating will decrease the risk of bloat. I always feed my poodles in their crate prior to rest time or bedtime. See our Health Page
